What To Wear To Christmas Mini Sessions

Sleigh Your Studio Session: Captivating Christmas Outfits for a Picture-Perfect Holiday Shoot

The holiday season is just around the corner, and there's no better way to capture the festive spirit than with a Christmas-themed studio photoshoot. Whether you're planning a family portrait, a couple's session, or simply want to update your social media profiles with a dash of holiday cheer, your outfit plays a crucial role in setting the tone. In this blog post, we'll explore some stunning Christmas outfit ideas that will make your studio session shine like a star on top of the tree.

Classic Red

Nothing says Christmas like the classic colour - red! Consider a deep red dress paired with a green accessory or vice versa. The vibrant colours will instantly convey the holiday spirit, making your photos feel warm and inviting. Red clothing would work brilliantly with my festive setup!

Dresses, tops, shirts and even trousers that are red or have accents of red, would complement this traditionally styled Christmas scene.

Red-checked material looks lovely too. Think dresses, shirts, skirts and shorts with a tartan check – that would be perfect!

Want to be different - go for pyjamas! They look super cute and cosy.

Colours That Complement Red

If you’d prefer not to wear a large amount of red, complementary colours such as creams, greys, dark greens and white would work well. Try to avoid black if possible.

I recommend that you choose plain clothes – so without branding, if possible (as this can date the pictures), and with minimal or no busy patterns which may prove distracting to the eye.

For accessories, crisp white socks and red, black or white leather or patent shoes on little girls are adorable. Older girls may prefer smart boots, while boys may prefer black shoes or smart trainers and dark socks.

Choose Well-Fitting Clothes

One of the most important things to consider is that your children should feel comfortable in what they’re wearing. So, please dress them in clothes that fit well.

If your child is feeling uncomfortable in what they are wearing – perhaps the shirt is itching their neck or their shoes are too tight – then this will make them feel uneasy on the day.

Aim For A Consistent Look

Ideally, if there’s more than one child, they should be dressed to a similar level to each other.

What I mean by that is that if your daughter is wearing her sparking festive party dress, and shiny party shoes, then your son should wear a smart shirt and shoes for example.

While you don’t need to ‘dress up’ necessarily, most people do choose to wear smart clothes rather than casual. That said, jeans are fine with a shirt – it’s not so much about the individual items of clothing but how you style it.

Style It Your Way!

This leads me onto…styling.

Although the Christmas mini-sessions this year are traditional in feel, you can choose to wear traditionally styled clothes for a classic Christmas look. Or you may prefer to stick to contemporary styles – modern-cut shirts, dresses etc. It’s completely up to you and your family.

If you have more than one child, siblings can look adorable in matching outfits. Or you may want to dress each child individually.

Whatever your preference, feel free to bring along any accessories you may want to incorporate into the photos. Hair accessories, hats, bow ties, blankets and even your child’s favourite teddy are all very welcome!

Christmas Mini Sessions At Kingshill Studios

So, those are my top tips on what to wear to Christmas mini-sessions. I hope they’ve been useful.

While these incredibly popular sessions sold out a while back, there is a waiting list for next year so get in touch if you’re interested in festive portraits of your family. My Christmas mini-sessions are likely to sell out again but if you join the waitlist, I’ll let you know when they are available to book.

Remember, as well as being ideal for sharing on social media, these festive mini portraits make perfect Christmas gifts printed and framed, or you could use them on personalised Christmas cards or photo calendars. There are endless ways you can use them!

Plus, they are a lovely memento of Christmas that you’ll love looking back on in years to come!

Lots of love
